Joe & Mimma's

My wife and I went on a date to this local favorite after hearing friends rave about it. I was skeptical that it could live up to the hype, but we were quite impressed with the food and service as well. I ordered the seafood cannelloni, and she got the chicken cannelloni. The dinners came with choice of garden salad or ceasar and bread. The salads were great with homemade dressing, the bread rather unremarkable. The olive oil and pepper that was served to dip the bread in was amazing! When our entrees arrived I thought they looked rather small at first. But in the end I could hardly finish it! My seafood cannelloni had a tomato cream sauce, and it was so good I can hardly describe it! The chicken cannelloni had a spinach alfredo sauce that was more subtle than mine, but also very good! If I had to pick one of them to have again, I would have to get half of each! The service was excellent as well. This is one of those places that knows the regular customers, and takes an interest in the people they serve food to. My kind of restaurant!

It might seem strange to see a movie theatre on a restaurant blog, but the Commodore is a unique place! Go there once and you will see what I mean. They serve a full menu from the floor seats, and candy, popcorn, and soft drinks to the balcony seats. My wife and I went there the other day for a 2:00 matinee, and were happy to get good floor seats in the back. Evidently those are the best seats, but I'm not sure. We got a nacho platter and a fruit and cheese tray to share. I would recommend getting a pitcher of soft drinks if you plan on drinking more than one glass, as it is a much better deal. The presentation for both menu items was very nice. And they tasted just as good as they looked! The nachos came with bbq beef on the side, instead of chili. I've never had nachos with bbq beef before, but it was very good. I will go back again just for these nachos. The ambience is very nice. Think Cinema Cafe but much nicer. About getting tickets, you can only get them the day of the showing. The box office opens up at 12:45pm though. Recommend you get there at that time to get evening tickets to a opening weekend movie. We got there at about 1:20 or so and were able to get floor seats for the 2:00 show. It's not a bad idea to drop someone off to get in the ticket line, then drive around the corner to the city parking lot behind the Children's Museum (parking is free on the weekends) and walk over.
